When Nike asks you to run with them, you don’t say no. Even if you haven’t ran in a few months and have to bring your inhaler along (just in case). lol. I had the honor and privilege of spending my Sunday afternoon doing just that with Alesia from @LoveCoutureLA, and Laci from @SoLaciLike.
We joined Team Nike for a 2-miler led by Coach Blue Benadum, who literally transformed us from total amateurs to pros in one run. Growing up I was always the kid who fretted at the thought of running a mile on the track or just running period. I’ve had asthma since I was 4 which made me grow up with the idea that running just wasn’t for me. When I was in college there was a period of time that I would run 5K’s regularly and eventually that just fell off. This run was exactly the push I needed to do better. You don’t have to be a “runner” to run, you just need to start somewhere. Get out of your comfort zone.
Armed with the all new LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2, a full Nike Fit, and a gracious photographer we ran around a beautifully warm Culver City. When we got back to the office we were treated with even more surprises. Manicures, massages, Moon Juice, aromatherapy, you name it.
To say it was an amazing afternoon is an understatement. I’ve always connotated running with negative thoughts, but my day with Nike did a great job of transforming that. Now, with the all new LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2’s (which really are easily most lightweight running shoes I own) I’m ready to apply this new mindset to the streets and start my running journey all over again.
I believe Nike Co-Founder Bill Bowerman said it best, “If you have a body, you are an athlete,” so get out there and do what you can with what you have.
I know I will.
Thank you Team Nike for a surprise filled day and for getting this asthmatic back in the game. Shop the sneaks now at Nike.com.
